An event that has brought $2.4 million into the Corpus Christi economy for the past three years is taking a break. BikeFest 2017 will not hold its Roar by the Shore festival this October. Organizers said they are taking time to make plans for a bigger and better event next year.
Roar by the Shore moved to Corpus Christi three years ago after 20 years on South Padre Island. Held in partnership with the Corpus Christi Convention and Visitors Bureau, the motorcycle festival plans to rebrand and expand to welcome a larger audience, organizer G.J. Reyna said.
BikeFest is the longest running major motorcycle rally in Texas. The main focus for the nonprofit in the next year will be to rebrand the event, with the goal of appealing to a bigger cross section of motorcyclist enthusiasts.
“This is an opportunity to create a new BikeFest that will incorporate music, fun and a rally for all to enjoy,” Reyna said. “Corpus Christi provides the perfect backdrop for our event and we want it to be bigger and better in 2018.”
