The Corpus Christi Police Department’s stealth car is now on the road looking for unsafe drivers. The CCPD urged residents to pull over when flagged by the unmarked car.
The driver will always be a uniformed police officer, so check to make sure that is who is approaching your vehicle during a traffic stop. Officers will also be equipped with spotlights, lights and sirens.
Chief of Police Mike Markle requested the unmarked car last summer after reporting that, as of the middle of 2017, the city had recorded twice the number of traffic fatalities as the year before. City Council had to pass an amendment to existing city code to make the unmarked cars possible.
San Antonio and other big cities use unmarked cars and have been able to successfully decrease the number of traffic accidents.
In a recent humorous tweet, the CCPD listed “a few ways to meet the driver:” aggressive driving, speeding, talking or texting on the phone, running a red light. Best to “be courteous and obey the law,” reads the tweet.
