One pier has reopened, while another one has closed in the Coastal Bend. On Mustang Island, Horace Caldwell Pier in Port Aransas reopened for the first time since Hurricane Harvey wreaked havoc on the region on Aug. 25, 2017. In Corpus Christi, a crack in the Cole Park Pier led city staff to indefinitely close that fishing pier for inspection and repairs.
At 1,200 feet, Horace Caldwell Pier is considered one of the best fishing spots in the Port Aransas area. It is located in IB Magee Beach, home to the annual SandFest.
After a concerned citizen notified the city that a crack had appeared in the Cole Park Pier at 1900 Ocean Drive in Corpus Christi, the pier was closed immediately because of safety concerns. The pier will have to be assessed and possibly repaired before reopening, said Jay Ellington, the city’s parks and recreation director.
No time frame has been set for reopening the pier. Families still have plenty to do in Cole Park, including playgrounds, a skate park, and waterfront access to Corpus Christi Bay.
