Southern Careers Institute Corpus Christi is adding cosmetology to its career lineup. Registration is now open for the first semester, which begins July 3.
With the addition of Southern Star Salon at Southern Careers Institute,
cosmetology students can learn firsthand how to operate a salon at the Texas-based career education provider. Students get hands-on experience in skin care, nail care, hair coloring and style, and salon management.
Registration has opened for the first semester, which begins July 3. Interested students can attend an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 10 for a tour of the facilities and an overview of the courses offered.
During the open house, the institute is also holding a job fair for students in all classes, including entry-level business, health care, technology, and skilled trade.
A ribbon-cutting to celebrate the expansion of Southern Careers Institute’s Corpus Christi campus is set for 2 p.m. June 14, when the salon will be unveiled.
“The expansion of our Corpus Christi campus with the new Southern Star Salon bolsters the educational courses available to students,” said Jacob Mayhew, CEO of the institute, in a news release. “Students pursuing a career in cosmetology have the resources on campus to obtain the training and learning experience to develop the expertise to enter their desired cosmetology field.”
Corpus Christi joins the institute’s San Antonio South and Brownsville campuses in offering the cosmetology program, a 50-week course. Students graduate prepared to take the licensure exam from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to receive their cosmetology license.
