The escape room craze has landed on the USS Lexington Museum on the Bay. “Beat the Blast” is 60 minutes of intense puzzle solving during which guests are tasked with defusing a nuclear bomb hidden on board the World War II aircraft carrier. Clues, Cold War-era equipment, and tools help find the answers that lead everyone on board to safety.
The attraction, which opened Jan. 18, plays throughout the day in 90-minute intervals. Guests are given safety briefings before lockdown and a debriefing after.
The latest in today’s technology joins historic Navy radars and Morse code for this fun, interactive family attraction. It’s the first-ever escape room on board an aircraft carrier, according to museum Executive Director Steve Banta.
Although known for its daring feats during World War II, the USS Lexington also engaged in operations during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. The fictional events inside the escape room are built around an actual occurrence on the ship during that time.
The USS Lexington Museum on the Bay is located at 2914 N. Shoreline Blvd. on North Beach in Corpus Christi. Cost is $35 per person, which includes free museum entry. For more information, visit usslexington.com or call (361) 883-4873.
