Visit the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History for only $1 a person on Sunday, Feb. 17. Now under new management, the museum will be open Sunday noon-5 p.m.
The museum recently received a $303,394 grant from the Rebuild Texas Fund to replace items damaged by Hurricane Harvey.
“We are grateful for the Rebuild Texas Fund’s dedication and passion for rebuilding and revitalizing communities, including our own Corpus Christi museum,” said Carol Rehtmeyer, president and CEO. “Through this generous grant, we will be able to repair and/or replace items that were damaged.”
The Rebuild Texas Fund launched days after Hurricane Harvey devastated the coastal community Aug. 25, 2017. The initiative is a joint project of the Michael and Susan Dell and OneStar foundations, dedicated to rebuilding organizations that play critical roles in damaged communities.
The Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History closed for eight months after the hurricane. It is owned by the city of Corpus Christi but was managed by Corpus Christi Museum Joint Venture for six years. Friends of the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History made a successful bid to take over last October.
Friends board members now in charge are Jim Maloney, Gloria Hicks, Chris Adler, Sam Susser Sr., Al Jones, Toby Shor, and David Engel. Serving as advisors to the organization are Mel Klein, Gary Leach, and Kim Hammer. A former CEO and president, Rehtmeyer is also on the board and is the current president and CEO.
