Port Aransas reported two confirmed cases of COVID-19, while Kleberg County issued a stay-at-home order March 26 similar to the one issued by Nueces County the day before. Issued by Kleberg County Judge Rudy Madrid, the order takes effect at 11:59 p.m. Friday, March 27, and ends at 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, April 8.
No cases of COVID-19 had been confirmed in the county at the time of the order. A drive-through testing site was just recently set up.
In Port Aransas, Mayor Charles Bujan announced two cases have been confirmed in the town of just over 4,000. Both are travel-related, he said.
“As I promised you, we have been notified by County Health Department that Port Aransas has two confirmed cases of COVID-19,” Bujan wrote on his Facebook page.
Port Aransas added six additional restrictions to the Nueces County stay-at-home order issued by County Judge Barbara Canales on March 25. Those include no fishing or camping, exercise only on the beaches, and no short-term rentals. Also, RV parks are considered residences, but no new RVs can come in, and, if one leaves, it cannot come back for the length of the order, which ends at 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, April 8.
Police began going to individual campsites to clear the beach on Thursday, March 26. Campers were told to pack up and move off by the end of the day.
In his post about the two patients with the virus, Bujan listed the following instructions at the request of the Nueces County Health Department:
• wash your hands, especially after touching any frequently used item or surface
• avoid touching your face
• sneeze or cough into a tissue or the side of your elbow
• disinfect frequently used items and surfaces as much as possible
