Corpus Christi’s traditional Dia de los Muertos blowout festival has been canceled, but the spirit of the season will be kept alive with a downtown altar contest. Businesses and residents are decorating their storefronts and windows with altars or ofrendas.
Festival creators K Space Contemporary art gallery and studios and Electra Art Axis Tattoo will provide a map of altars for those wanting to take a downtown tour. The map will be available in print and online. Participating businesses will have maps to hand out for free.
The altars will be up Oct. 28-Nov. 13. Altars and decorations will also be included in a virtual exhibit.
An exhibit at K Space Contemporary, "Disfruta El Sabor! (Savor the Flavor)", will be on display through Nov. 13. Works by 46 artists were inspired by or depict Mexican food traditions that will make your mouth water and spark your own creativity.
Another great exhibit at K Space features young artists as part of the 2020 Youth Art Exhibition. Hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday.
K Space Contemporary is located at 623 N. Chaparral St. Electra Art Axis Tattoo is located at 701 N. Chaparral St.
