Close to 300 women have received recognition from the Corpus Christi YWCA through the Y Women in Careers Awards over the past 42 years. In 2022, seven more women join that legacy for making a significant impact in their career field.
The women will be honored at the 42nd Y Women in Careers Awards on Thursday, March 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the YWCA, 4601 Corona Drive in Corpus Christi.
The outstanding businesswomen to be recognized are:
- MARICELA CUEVAS — Vice president of QRSOnline
- PAULETTE M. GUAJARDO — Mayor of Corpus Christi
- MISSY MEDARY — Presiding judge of the 5th Administrative Region of Texas
- CLARENDA M. PHILLIPS, Ph.D. — Provost/vice president for Academic Affairs at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi
- JULIE PIÑA — Chief nursing officer at Driscoll Children’s Hospital
- GLORIA GARCIA TAYLOR — Executive director of Communities in Schools of the Coastal Bend
The Lifetime Achievement Award will go to:
- ESTHER BONILLA READ — Author and columnist
“Recognizing these deserving women is a special privilege for YWCA, as well as fulfilling our mission of ‘Empowering Women.’ These honorees play crucial roles in our community,” said YWCA President/CEO Nancy Wesson-Dodd. “Y Women in Careers is a vital way to show young girls what women can accomplish, helping them to set goals for their own lives.”
