Register now for the second Heart Your Park event in Corpus Christi, which is from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 19, at the Hans & Pat Suter Wildlife Refuge. The first Heart Your Park day of service was March 5. Deadline to register is March 12
Sponsored by the the Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation Department in partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association, the program is funded by CITGO.
NRPA encourages communities to engage in preserving and improving parklands for people and wildlife. All volunteers must be at least 16 years old.
Volunteers can register to help at the park, 909 Ennis Joslin Road in Corpus Christi, to prepare for spring and summer butterfly populations. Projects include removing overgrowth, clearing plants harmed by the 2021 freeze, and adding new plants to the area. 
The third service workday for Heart Your Park is April 23 at Doddridge Park, 3814 Ocean Drive along Corpus Christi Bay. Trash and debris pickup is the goal that day. Registration deadline is April 16.
“Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation is excited about the opportunity being provided by the NRPA and CITGO to engage our community in conservation,” said preserve manager Sara Jose. “Through our efforts at the Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve and other nature sites, we hope to teach our residents how to best live alongside nature and wildlife. These projects will allow local volunteers to have ownership, familiarity, and buy-in for the plants in our community green spaces.”
Registered volunteers will receive a T-shirt, water bottle, and lunch. All needed supplies will be provided.
