The continent of Asia comes alive at the Texas State Museum of Asian Cultures and Education Center. Since 1974, the museum has offered educational classes, a library, exhibits, and many other resources for the purpose of promoting an understanding and appreciation for the Asian culture.
The museum has special collections on Pacific Rim nations and the Indian subcontinent to reflect the distinct Asian cultures and customs.
With more than 8,000 objects and documents, visitors have a lot to enjoy. Admire beautiful artwork and artifacts from countries that span across Asia. From Vietnam and Sri Lanka to Laos and Thailand, you will see the diversity of Asian culture right before your eyes.
View traditional Japanese kimonos and Hakata dolls, Korean formal dresses, Chinese porcelain, Indian brass, and more in the museum's collections.
Upstairs from the gallery, the Education Center holds classes in Chinese writing, storytelling, origami art, Feng Shui, conversational Chinese, food tasting, etiquette, and much more.
Check out the gift shop on your way out. The shop is filled with unique and inexpensive items from porcelains and jewelry to children’s games and craft sets.
Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and military members, $4 for students, and $3 for ages 4-12. Admission is free for law enforcement officers and children under 4. Hours are noon-5 p.m. Tuesday- Saturday. It is closed on Sunday and Monday.
The museum is run by volunteers and relies on patronage, special events, and donations to keep its doors open.
