Construction on Bayshore Park began in mid-October, causing some changes in traffic patterns along Shoreline Boulevard but bringing high anticipation of a great new recreational area for the city.
Located on 30 acres between Shoreline Boulevard and the seawall, park improvements are expected to cost about $5.1 million. The money will come from bonds approved by voters in the 2008 election.
Phase 1 of the work will mean closing McCaughan Park for a short time. Temporary fencing will be installed around area, but the seawall will remain open.
After completion of that end of the park, construction crews will move south to begin working on Sherrill Park.
Improvements planned include two sets of bathrooms to be built near Park Street and Cooper’s Alley, 10 food truck connections, a dog park, landscaping, additional benches, shade structures and improved lighting. Also in the plans, a stage to be built in the footprint of the old coliseum, which was demolished in 2010.
All during construction, which should take about year, left turns will not be allowed from Southbound Shoreline Boulevard to Park Street.
