Brewster Street Icehouse recently moved a few shovelfuls of dirt closer to opening a second location on Corpus Christi’s populous Southside. Developers of the 12-year-old restaurant and live entertainment venue broke ground on a new site at the corner of Staples Street and Holly Road on Wednesday, Aug. 23.
Operating Manager Mark Schaberg called the business a family-friendly place to come watch a game, hear great live music, and eat five-star food.
“We’re a heck of a place to bring your kids and family,” he said at the groundbreaking.
The new location will focus even more on the family-friendly part, said developer Bill Durrill said. Blueprints include a large playground for kids, outdoor seating, and a bar and dining area.
The expansion has taken quite some time from the first announcement in November 2014 to the groundbreaking four years later. Durrill said the past year alone was spent getting permits lined up. He hopes to have the new location operating in time for the 2019-20 football season.
The original Brewster Street Ice House, which will continue to serve the downtown and SEA District, is located at 1724 N. Tancahua St. across from Whataburger Field.
