The only Level-II trauma center south of Austin is set to change locations in Corpus Christi on May 2. Currently the trauma center resides at Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital at 2606 Hospital Blvd. In early May, it will begin operation at Christus Spohn’s Shoreline facility at 600 Elizabeth Street.
The move leaves very little in patient services at the Memorial location, which is scheduled for demolition in 2020. The new Hector P. Garcia Memorial Family Health Center, which shares an address with Christus Spohn Memorial, will continue handling non trauma-level emergencies as well as behavioral health and psychiatric services.
“This move will bring together Christus Spohn’s trauma team, key medical specialties and latest technology under one roof, enhancing the trauma program and elevating patient care,” said Dr. Osbert Blow, chief medical officer and trauma medical director, is a news release.
A $335 million project currently under way at the Shoreline location will include a new surgery unit slated to open in September and a critical care floor expected to begin operation this month. New additions include a patient care tower slated for construction in 2019.
