Donors to the Coastal Bend Day of Giving on Nov. 10 raised more than $3 million for 51 local charitable and nonprofit organizations — a record-breaking year. Now in its 12th year, the campaign reported a total of $3,333,479 will now be available to distribute.
“In spite of the COVID-19 pandemic and perhaps because of the great need individual donors saw as its result, 2020’s Coastal Bend Day of Giving will have an enormous impact on these nonprofits and the thousands of families that have been affected,” said Karen Salem in a release. Salem is the president and CEO of the Coastal Bend Community Foundation, which sponsors the event.
The Coastal Bend Day of Giving is a designated 24-hour period to collect online donations for a variety of local nonprofits. Donors pick the nonprofit they want to help and donate however much they wish. The event “brings the region together as one community, raising money and awareness for our local nonprofits,” reads a statement on the website.
Nonprofits are eligible for matching gifts through the foundation. This year, 46 charities received an additional $22,000 each from a $1.1 million matching fund. Four additional nonprofits will receive a dollar-for-dollar match.
The event has raised more than $20.5 million in its 12 years in operation.
