The 15th annual Conquer the Coast ride has been rained out. The Sept. 15 event was canceled due to a rainy weather forecast based on a possible tropical storm brewing in the Gulf of Mexico. This year, riders won’t get the opportunity to complete the 65-, 21-, or 10-mile rides around the Corpus Christi Bay.
“Our goal is the safety of all riders, volunteers, and staff,” stated a media release issued two days before the event.
Despite the cancellation, donations can still be made to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Athletic Scholarship Fund, Bikes for Kids, Bike Texas, and the United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce Foundation.
Participants can pick up packets containing shirts and medals on Sept. 21 from 2-7 p.m. at Executive Surf Club, 306 N. Chaparral St. in Corpus Christi. Packet pickups will be arranged in other cities as well with more details to come.
Refunds will not be available to riders, though entry for the 2019 event will be offered to participants at heavily discounted prices.
