When the weather heats up, so, too, does the Cool Off Corpus Christi fan drive. The city’s ninth annual fan drive is collecting donations of fans and money from May 25-June 15. The cash buys fans, and all fans, purchased or donated, are given to senior citizens so they can keep cool during the hot summer days.
A fan drive kickoff is planned for 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 25, at Greenwood Senior Center, 4040 Greenwood Drive in Corpus Christi. The drive is a collaboration between Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation Department’s Senior Community Services, the Mayor’s Council on Aging, WellMed, and Grande Communications.
Senior Centers, the housing authority, and Adult Protective Services identify seniors in need and help with distribution. Last year, more than 100 fans were given out across the city.
