Amid hurricanes and pandemic lockdowns, residents and visitors can once again enjoy driving on the beaches this Labor Day weekend. Nueces County announced that Gulf and bay beaches will remain open and accessible by vehicle Saturday-Monday, Sept. 5-7. The county closed beaches to vehicles on Easter and July 4 weekends through Aug. 17. Nighttime curfews also have been lifted.
Beach guests are urged to follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines and take daily health and safety precautions: Play It Safe while enjoying the beach, says the Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation Department.
Recommended safety procedures include:
- observe and follow the flag warning system to be aware of surf and/or riptide conditions;
- fewer than 10 people per group;
- maintain 6 feet or more of separation from individuals not in your immediate household;
- wear a face covering or mask when social distancing is not possible;
- wash and sanitize hands frequently;
- avoid sharing utensils or other common objects.
