Ambulance bus serving as temporary ER space at Doctors Regional Hospital

Corpus Christi’s new ambulance bus, or AMBUS, has been put to use to help ease the strain on area emergency rooms. The AMBUS was recently set up at Corpus Christi Medical Center Doctors Regional, 3315 S. Alameda St.
A recent spike in COVID-19 cases has placed an enormous strain on emergency room capacity, city leaders said. The AMBUS will provide an additional treatment area for non-COVID-related emergencies.
The AMBUS will be run by the Corpus Christi Fire Department and Corpus Christi Medical Center staff. It is typically used for mass casualty and evacuations and has lifesaving equipment.
The Corpus Christi Fire Department received the AMBUS in May. The vehicle can accommodate staff and be used to treat up to 21 patients at a time, including patients in wheelchairs. The $1 million vehicle was awarded to the city with help from the Coastal Bend Regional Advisory Committee at no cost to the city.
