All beaches and parks in Nueces County are closed for Easter weekend, but the virtual doors to the city are still open, announced Visit Corpus Christi, the city’s convention and tourism board.
Closed are all the beaches in Corpus Christi, Port Aransas, and even Padre Island National Seashore, officials recently announced. Closures last from 6 a.m. Friday, April 10, to 6 a.m. Monday, April 13.
Corpus Christi and Port Aransas also have banned short-term rentals in the area through April 30.
The city’s tourism arm is keeping virtual doors open, however, launching a fundraising campaign that will help unemployed hospitality workers and protect the economy for when the entire country reopens for business.
Visit Corpus Christi announced a new line of locally designed and produced merchandise to raise money for workers in the tourism industry now without jobs. Items can be ordered online from Made in Corpus Christi, a shop that sells locally designed and produced goods.
Touting a new slogan — “We Ride This Wave Together” — merchandise includes wooden stickers and keychains, hats, T-shirts, drinking cups, mugs, and more. Donations also can be made directly through the Visit Corpus Christi website.
Visit Corpus Christi promised a huge campaign inviting visitors back to the area as soon as the COVID-19 crisis has passed.
“We hope to kick it off as soon as there’s an end in sight,” said Brett Oetting, president of Visit Corpus Christi. “There’s every indication we’ll have a busy summer.”
While online placing your order, take a virtual trip to Padre Island Natural Seashore on its Facebook page. You also might want to wander through 101CorpusChristi.com to plan you next trip to the Coastal Bend because we will get back to normal soon!
