Corpus Christi residents can plan now to have water for gardens and yards this summer by purchasing a rain-storage barrel. The city has discounted the barrels to $47, plus tax, while supplies last.
According to the National Weather Service, the Coastal Bend will likely remain in a drought through July 31. Any water collected during occasional rains can be valuable for later use.
The 55-gallon-capacity barrel attaches to a home’s downspout and can be connected to a standard watering hose. The device has a child-proof locking lid and a bug-proof screen. Measuring 38 inches tall and 24 inches across, the barrel is available in black or brown.
Customers pay for a barrel at central cashiering in City Hall, 1201 Leopard St. The pickup location is at the city’s warehouse on Civitan Drive, across from Corpus Christi Water Utilities and next to Animal Care Services.
The limit is two barrels per household.
