Corpus Christi Fire Chief Robert Rocha has taken on a world leadership role as the new president of the Metropolitan Fire Chiefs Association. Rocha was recently elected as the top administrator for the organization for 2022-23. The International Association of Fire Chiefs and the International Fire Protection Association make up the membership of MFCA.
Fire chiefs of cities with a minimum staff of 350 firefighters are represented from the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Mexico.
“This is a great honor for the fire department and the city of Corpus Christi,” Rocha said. “It validates the tremendous progress we have made in the department’s professionalism and places our city in the forefront of the fire service.”
Rocha has led the Corpus Christi Fire Department since December 2011. He was recognized at the Corpus Christi City Council meeting on June 14 for his new leadership role.
In March 2022, the Corpus Christi Fire Department opened its resource center to hold lifesaving equipment after only nine months under construction. In 2021, the department responded to more than 53,000 calls.
