Experience a little bit of sports history in Corpus Christi this spring when the Houston Astros’ World Series trophy makes a stop at Whataburger Field. The trophy will be on display for two days, April 16-17, during the home-opener weekend for the Corpus Christi Hooks. The team’s first 2018 home stand runs from April 12-17.
"Big thanks to the World Champion Houston Astros for making this happen,” Hooks General Manager Wes Weigle said. “I know this is going to be an awesome experience.”
The Hooks are the AA farm team for the Astros, which won their first World Series title in their 56-year history last season. The Astros beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in an epic seven-game battle to capture the title.
Included in the 25-man World Series roster for the Astros were former Hooks players George Springer, Jose Altuve, Chris Devenski, Lance McCullers Jr. and Joe Musgrove.
Fans attending the Kleberg Bank College Classic this weekend at Whataburger Field can enter a raffle to win photo opportunities with the trophy while it’s here in April. The College Classic is a six-game, round-robin baseball tournament set for Feb. 23-25. The 2018 teams feature Mississippi State University, the University of California-Santa Barbara, Nicholls State University and host Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
Hooks season-ticket holders and sponsors will have an opportunity to take photos with the trophy while it’s at the field.
“We are very excited our fans, season members, and sponsors will have the chance to see the trophy up close,” Weigle said. “The Coastal Bend has been Astros country going all the way back to 1962 with the expansion Colt .45s, and our fans have been clamoring for this announcement ever since the final out last fall.”
