Whataburger renewed its 15-year partnership with the Corpus Christi Hooks on March 5, a year before the naming rights for the minor league baseball team’s home field expired. The harbor-front ballpark will remain Whataburger Field and soon sport the burger franchise’s orange and white stripes on its roof.
Other changes include naming the private drive on the west side of the stadium Whataburger Way and adding Whataburger branded tables to the top of Section 120, where fans can enjoy table service at the stadium’s in-house 1,000-square-foot restaurant. The eatery is located on the concourse behind home plate.
In celebration, the Double AA Hooks plan to hand out exclusive Whataburger 15th season jerseys to every fan in attendance to the Saturday, April 6, game, the third of the new season. The Hooks open the 2019 season at home against the San Diego Padres' new Double-A affiliate, the Amarillo Sod Poodles, on Thursday, April 4. The Hooks are a farm team for the World Series-winning Houston Astros.
"Whataburger backed us from the beginning, before we even had a name,” said Hooks founder and Astros President of Business Operations Reid Ryan. “I am delighted our two brands remain linked.”
Whataburger Field opened in 2005. The $25 million field is considered one of the top venues in minor league baseball. The Hooks have leased the field through 2035 from the city of Corpus Christi.
Reid called the city-team-restaurant partnership an investment in the community where Whataburger was born.
"This partnership allows us to continue our mission of growing the game of baseball, investing in the community, and providing South Texas families with excellent customer service and first-class entertainment,” he said.
