The Corpus Christi IceRays hit the American Bank Center rink Friday, Jan. 11, against the Shreveport Mudbugs, where fans can get a firsthand look at the team’s new assistant and goal tending coach, Al Rooney. Previously the head coach and general manager for the Chippewa Steel, Rooney joined the IceRays at the first of the year.
“I am extremely excited to work with Al and bring his experience to our team,” IceRays head coach Ryan Cruthers said. “He is a proven winner that prides himself on work ethic and attention to detail, which have been staples in our organization this season. ”
The IceRays completed their longest stretch of road games for the season with a record of 6-4-0-0. The team played 10 games away. They haven’t been on home ice since Dec. 8.

Ranked second in the standings for the South Division, IceRays have a season record of 18-15-1-0 over the Mudbugs at 16-13-1-4. Both teams have a ways to go to best the top-ranked Amarillo Bulls, which stand at 25-3-2-2 as of Jan. 7.
After only two home games, the IceRays head to North Richland Hills to play the Lone Star Brahmas on Jan. 18-19. Then, it’s back home Jan. 25-27 for a three-game meetup with the Amarillo Bulls. After that, the IceRays travel to Alaska, where they play Feb. 1-2 and Feb. 8-9. Following that, only eight more home games are set for the 2019 season, which ends Saturday, April 6, with the IceRays taking on the Topeka Pilots in Corpus Christi.
