The city of Corpus Christi will recognize Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, which is Jan. 17, with a slew of activities geared toward social justice. While the first event will be virtual, the remaining gatherings are in person.
Events begin on Thursday, Jan. 13, with the Virtual Justice Forum at 6 p.m. The Zoom webinar will feature Vincent Warren, executive director of the Center for Constitutional Rights. Under Warren, the center is a national leader in its legal work on a wide range of civil and human rights issues.
In addition, local civil rights attorney Matt Manning of Webb, Cason & Manning, P.C. will moderate this important discussion. Register for this Zoom event online.
At 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, Brooks Worship Center, 2101 N. Port Ave., will hold an interfaith prayer service with faith leaders from across the Coastal Bend scheduled to participate.
At 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17, the YWCA Corpus Christi will host a Racial Justice Forum in the Central Jury Room at the Nueces County Courthouse, 901 Leopard St.
At about noon, immediately following the forum, the 36th annual MLK Commemorative March begins at the courthouse and proceeds to the Church of the Good Shepard, 700 S. Upper Broadway.
In anticipation of MLK Day of Service events, the city of Corpus Christi set up a webpage with more information and a schedule.
