The boardwalk on the Peoples Street T-Head is getting a makeover. The Corpus Christi City Council approved building a new boardwalk at its meeting Tuesday, Aug. 23.
The existing boardwalk was built in 1989, but decking has been removed due to safety issues, according to the city. The new boardwalk will have composite decking, similar to that used on the recently rebuilt Cole Park Pier. Work also will include additional boat slips for commercial use as well as upgraded electric and water utilities.
The council awarded the project's contract to Jacobs Engineering, an international company that has operations in Corpus Christi. Work is projected to cost about $439,000, paid out of the Seawall Capital Fund in the 2022 fiscal year budget.
The Peoples Street T-Head, a component of Corpus Christi’s downtown marina, is one of the city’s top attractions with restaurants, fishing, boat slips, bay excursions, shopping, and a small park. The boardwalk is home to Harrison’s Landing restaurant, a gift shop, and tour boats as well as the famous Mirador de la Flor with its statue of the late Tejana superstar Selena Quintanilla.
