Put Booming industry, International trade, and Government contracting together, and it spells the B.I.G. event at Del Mar College Center for Economic Development on Aug. 8. The event is a mini-convention with presentations, vendors, keynote speakers, and network opportunities for small-business owners in the Coastal Bend.
Keynote speakers for this year’s B.I.G. Event are Commissioner Julian Alvarez III of the Texas Workforce Commission and Dr. Jim Lee, director of the South Texas Economic Development Center at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Alvarez will present “Workforce Strategies that Support the Coast Bend.” Lee will present a Coastal Economic Update.
Other sessions include:
• “BIG Things Happening for DBEs: How to Work with the Harbor Bridge Project” by Yolanda Coleman, Flatiron/Dragados LLC
• “International Trade Panel: The Current Environment” by Daniel Rodriguez, U.S. Department of Commerce; Berenice Espinoza, SBDC International Trade Center-San Antonio; Alale Allal, U.S. Small Business Administration-Office of International Trade; and Dr. Gilda Ramirez, United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce
• “Industry 4.0: Artificial Intelligence” by Bill Sherrill, Advanced Technologies Consultants Inc.
More than 200 people attended the 2017 session. This is Del Mar College’s seventh B.I.G. event, which is 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Cost is $35 in advance and $45 at the door. Register online thebigeventcc.com. Fee includes lunch.
