Corpus Christi gets another star turn this fall when the short film “Where They Believe in Mermaids” goes into production. Written by Tracee Beebe of Llano, the script recently won the Location is Everything Short Script Competition, which focused on six locations in the city.
Film company Production for Use created the competition. The winner was announced at the Texas Surf Museum during an event Aug. 10. Beebe was chosen out of 100 entries. Local filmmaker Michael Quintana of Corpus Christi came in second.
The resulting film will be shown at film festivals across the nation, putting Corpus Christi and its locations in the spotlight. The city was certified as a film-friendly city in 2015 and has been the locations of major motion pictures such as “Pearl Harbor,” “Selena” and “The Legend of Billie Jean.”
TV episodes shot in Corpus Christi include “House Hunters,”
“The Mentalist” and “Kill or be Killed.”
Beebe’s most recent production was the short film “Dog Years,” now in post-production. She was associate producer for six episodes of the TV series “Buckle Up” and the short film “Devil’s Deal.”
According to her page on imdb.com, she has two short films in post-production and two other announced projects. One, “My Silent Voice,” is a screenplay she is writing.
Her faith-based movie “Hold the Reins” won the Love Unlimited Film Festival and Art Exhibition and the 2012 Screenplay award at the Mexico International Film Festival. She also authors a screenwriting blog for budding young writers.
