A creative arts center and art supply store has come to downtown Corpus Christi. Cre8ive Culture, a collaboration of muralist Jeremy Flores and cinematographer Dorian Green, provides art supplies and space for aspiring artists to hone their craft.
The goal is to “teach the fundamentals of being creative” and provide space where filmmakers, designers, and artists of every kind can gather and work on their projects. Artists are given the space to create masterpieces, learn photography, and study filmmaking. The center also serves as the city’s first independent, locally owned art supply store.
Flores has become well-known in the community for his work brightening up downtown Corpus Christi. He hosted the first-ever mural art gathering in the city, the CC Street WAVE, which brought some of the best muralists in the state to create downtown murals.
This summer, Flores was honored by state Sen. Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa for his artistic contributions to the community. He received a proclamation from the Texas Legislature after painting his “Greetings from Corpus Christi” mural in the Marina Arts District.
The goal behind Cre8ive Culture is to build on an already growing and vibrant art scene in Corpus Christi with a focus on young, aspiring artists.
“There’s a lot of potential in the youth here,” Flores said. “I want to inspire a creative wave in the city. We’re promoting youth involvement, using art to express themselves — and to do it respectfully.”
Flores grew up in Corpus Christi during a time when it was hard to find local artistic inspiration. He has seen that change over the years and wants to keep the vibe going by attracting a new generation of young artists to the scene.
“Instead of me painting and painting, I want to help other people learn to do it,” he said.
Cre8ive Culture is open daily from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. The store is located at 423 William St. in Corpus Christi. Visit its Facebook page @Cre8iveCultureLLC or call (361) 558-3445 for more information.
