Corpus Christi mayor approved expense to overcome hardship
Applications are now being accepted for the Emergency Rental Assistance Program after more than $7 million was added to Corpus Christi coffers.
Mayor Paulette M. Guajardo and the City Council approved $7,808,211 for the Corpus Christi program. Residents behind on their rent or utilities due to a COVID-19-related financial hardship can get help with overdue or upcoming payments.
“Your City Council and I are dedicated to assisting working individuals and families after experiencing the hardships caused as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Guajardo said. “The Emergency Rental Assistance Program is a great resource to assist our community back to financial recovery.”
The city allocated $9.8 million on July 1, 2021. To date, over 1,200 households have received assistance.
Payments are made directly to the landlord, property owner, management company, utility, or other home expense vendor and cannot exceed 18 months.

In-person assistance for applications is provided at the La Retama Central Library on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call 361-724-3085 with questions.
