Another new hamburger franchise restaurant is opening in Corpus Christi. Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers is putting the finishing touches on its newest location at 4002 South Padre Island Drive near Weber Road. According to its Facebook page, the fast-casual restaurant will open in late February.
A privately owned, family-oriented company, Freddy’s opened its first restaurant in Wichita, Kansas, in 2002. It was started by brothers Bill and Randy Simon and friend Scott Redler. The restaurant is named after the Simons’ father, Freddy Simon, a World War II veteran.
Menu items include lean, 100-percent ground beef steakburgers, Vienna Beef hot dogs, crispy shoestring fries, and freshly churned chocolate or vanilla frozen custard desserts. Its classic red-and-white-themed decor harkens to a look popular in the 1940s and early 1950s. Each restaurant includes captioned photos of Freddy.
With hundreds already opened, franchises are continuing to pop up across the U.S. The most recent opened Feb. 5 in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, the fourth in the Minneapolis area. This will be the first Freddy’s in the Coastal Bend. The next closest is in San Antonio.
