Summer admission is free for all guests to the Art Museum of South Texas in Corpus Christi, which has three new exhibits to explore. The free admissions were made possible by a donation from the Ed Rachal Foundation, which was established in 1964 in the last will and testament of a cattle rancher wanting to benefit “charitable, scientific, literary or education purposes within the state of Texas.”
The museum opened to the public June 2 after being closed due to COVID-19 restrictions. The facility has put safety precautions in place to meet statewide recommendations for reopening.
Guests will enter by the pink wall, where an AMST staff member will be stationed to open the door. Touch-less entry has been set up in the expanded gift shop area.
All museum staff will be wearing face masks. Visitors are not required but encouraged to do so.
Social distancing will be enforced with signs and floor decals placed throughout to help visitors gauge 6 feet of distance between each other. Families and those who come in a group do not have to social distance within their group.
Hand-sanitizing stations are available throughout the museum. Paper materials and touch-based interactive items have been removed. Additionally, AMST staff will be sanitizing public areas continuously throughout the day.
NEW EXHIBITS
New exhibits include never-before-seen works from the Permanent Collection; an installation by local artist Jennifer Arnold; and “Creative Distancing,” an exhibition that highlights the creativity of the local and national community “in solitude.”
