Live adoptions and microchip event in Corpus Christi on Thursday, Dec. 16
Corpus Christi Animal Care Services is providing free microchips for dogs and cats from 1-4 p.m Monday-Friday at the shelter, 2626 Holly Road. No appointment is necessary.
A pet microchip is an electronic name tag linked to the Animal Care Services (ACS) database. It contains the owner’s contact information and can be detected when a dog or cat gets lost and is picked up and turned in to ACS
Inserting a microchip into a pet is non-invasive and only takes a few seconds. It is ideal for the pet to be bathed before arriving at the shelter.
In addition to the daily availability, ACS will host a microchip and live adoption event Thursday, Dec. 16, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Benjamin’s Surf & Skate Shop in the Crossroads Shopping Village. As a Christmas promotion, new or gently used pet items such as toys, blankets, or unopened animal treats or food will be accepted at the event.
Also, on Dec. 6-11 and Dec. 13-18 from 1-4:30 p.m., adoption fees will be reduced to $10 for dogs and cats that are spayed/neutered, have age-appropriate vaccines, and are microchipped.
Individuals who are adopting pets must show up in person and be 18 years and older with a valid ID.
Since the start of the program in Corpus Christi on June 17, ACS has microchipped more than 950 pets. Having pets microchipped puts owners into compliance with the new Chapter 6 requirement of microchipping and registering pets in Corpus Christi.
