UPDATE: Safe Fun-Fit at the Bayfront is canceled for Saturday, Jan. 22, due to a forecast of extreme cold morning temperatures. The free classes will resume on Jan. 29 from 8-11 a.m.
Start the new year on a positive step with the free Safe Fun-Fit at the Bayfront classes from 8-11 a.m. every Saturday at The Water’s Edge, 402 S. Shoreline Blvd., in downtown Corpus Christi. The program is designed for ages 8 and older and all abilities and skill levels.
Participants can walk, jog, or bike the designated 1.5-mile fitness lane along the Bayfront.
In January, no organized races will be held, but check the schedule online for fun 5K events. Community partner H-E-B provides fruit and water for all participants.
Aerobic classes from Back to Basics’ Fitness, Yoga, and Zumba are offered at the Islanders Pavilion next to the playground. The fitness class runs from 8-8:40 a.m., yoga from 9-9:40 a.m., and Zumba from 10-10:40 a.m. Classes are subject to cancellation due to inclement weather.
Classes are limited to the first 30 participants, so register online beforehand. All are encouraged to bring their own yoga mat and water, as appropriate. Youths ages 8-15 must be accompanied by an adult.
A bonus of attendance at Safe Fun-Fit at the Bayfront, besides the pursuit of a healthy lifestyle, is a punch card to record each Saturday attended. Complete an entire punch card to be eligible for a prize.
