The first and only Goodwill Clearance Store in South Texas opens at 8 a.m. Tuesday, December 17, at 4135 Ayers St. in Corpus Christi. The Goodwill outlet contains about 80 bins of clothes that will be sold by the pound. Prices begin at 99 cents a pound for more than 51 pounds and $1.49 a pound for 51 pounds or less.
The 11,000-square-foot space is in what was formally known as Moon Plaza. The store also carries household items, toys, bedding, and more.
As customers dig through bins, merchandise will be constantly updated, up to four times a day per bin. New merchandise is brought to the floor every 30 minutes.
The inventory is made up of merchandise that did not sell at Goodwill Stores after five weeks on the floor. Goodwill used to sell leftover goods to a third party vendor. Now, everything goes to Goodwill Clearance Stores.
An additional 49,000 square feet of space at Moon Plaza will be used as a Goodwill distribution center and to house its e-commerce division and new goods program. The site will employ 80 full- and part-time workers.
