A plant that refurbishes marine vessels and offshore rigs has expanded its business to include import and export of goods, including wind turbines and pipeline materials. Gulf Copper Marine in Port Aransas began receiving imports in August 2017 with shipments of wind turbines. Pipes for delivering oil and gas make up the most recent 2018 imports.
Much of the imports are being stored on Harbor Island. The pipes, which are imported from Greece, will be used to build the many pipelines — six at last count — being laid from the Permian Basin and Eagle Ford Shale to Port Corpus Christi.
Gulf Copper Marine is an employee-owned company founded in 1948. It purchased the Port Aransas facility from Canyon Port, which also used the marine to import dry bulk items like frac sand, grains, sugar, and ore.
Gulf Copper Marine is the first deep-water terminal on the Corpus Christi Ship Channel, offering more than 100 acres of docks, warehouses, and storage. The company also offers complete offshore service capabilities.
The company is located at 118 Texas 361 East in Port Aransas. If coming by boat, it is at 027° 50′ 35″ N Latitude and 097° 04′ 20″ W Longitude. Call (361) 717-3251 or visit gchi.us for more information.
