H-E-B is backing children’s health by making a major donation to a local children’s hospital.
On Feb. 8, Driscoll Children’s Hospital received a $1 million check from H-E-B to help fund its newest expansion, currently underway.
Driscoll Children’s Hospital treats 76,000 outpatient and 4,800 inpatient children each year.
After its building approval in September 2016, expansion construction began to bring a two-story, 70,000-square-foot addition to the hospital. The expansion will be home to a new pediatric intensive care unit. The two-story addition will also house a new outpatient surgery center and an outpatient lab. The total cost of the expansion is $80 million.
H-E-B isn’t the only big name backing the hospital. In May 2016, Stripes Stores presented the hospital with a check for more than $522,000, raised by customer donations across South Texas.
The hospital has also received sizable donations from community partners such as Valero, Love’s Travel Stops, Enterprise Holdings, Flint Hills Resources and Hurricane Alley.
