City officials gave a public tour of a partially completed elevated water storage tank at 4917 Holly Road on June 15.
Part of a 2008 Capital Improvement Project, the 171-foot tower will be able to hold 3 million gallons of potable water. It is one of four new tanks being built to replace outdated tanks: one built in 1930, two in the 1950s and one in 1970.
Built 20 feet taller than the older towers, the Holly Road tower will also improve water pressure.
The $5.7 million tank is being constructed with reinforced concrete capable of withstanding hurricane-force winds. It will be paid for with water revenue bonds.
The Holly Road tank and one on Rand Morgan Road should be completed by this time next year. The final two tanks will go online in mid-2020.
