They don’t call them the Boys of Summer for nothing. Baseball, America’s favorite pastime, is often at its best — and certainly most economical and fun — at a minor league ballpark. One of the most popular teams plays in Corpus Christi at Whataburger Field. The Corpus Christi Hooks, the Astro’s AA farm team, play through September 2. The family fun includes some of the best ballpark food around, including the Whataburger Restaurant on the first base side behind homeplate.
Special promotion continue through the season, as well as fireworks and the Harbor Bridge lights display every Friday night home game.
Every Wednesday home game is Family Day at Whataburger Field. Buy one adult ticket at the box office and get one youth ticket for FREE.
On Thirsty Thursdays, all beers and sodas are discounted.
August 3 is Dia de los Regalos (Day of the Gifts) when all fans will receive a premium giveaway item. Fans will either get a 2017 replica Astros World Series ring, a Hooks Whataburger jersey, Astros George Spring bobblehead doll, a retro Houstons Astros cap, or any of a number of gifts handed out randomly.
“We wanted to commemorate this year’s Dia de los Hooks festivities with a day of giving,” said JD Davis, Hooks director of marketing. “With the tradition of Dia de los Muertos in mind, we’re giving fans a chance to remember some of our top giveaways with the opportunity to have them again.”
The entire weekend of August 1-3 has been designated Dia de los Weekend, featuring a four-game series with the Midland RockHounds. Extra activities include face painting, local artist and vendor booths, and an ofrenda, or alter, where fans can honor dead loved ones.
The Hooks become the Corpus Christi Raspas on Sunday, August 4. It’s also H-E-B Kids Day, where kids get to run the bases after the game.
The first 2,000 fans receive a batting practice pullover on Thursday, August 15, when the Hooks face the Frisco RoughRiders.
All fans will receive an Astros Jose Altuve sliding bobblehead on Friday, August 15, when the Midland RockHounds come back to town.
