Now officially a Category 2 in strength, Hurricane Harvey continues to build strength as it aims for the Central Texas coast. It is expected to make landfall sometime around 1 a.m. Saturday, August 26 as a Category 3 with sustaining winds around 120 miles per hour, just 10 mph shy of Cat 4 status. Ranked a major hurricane by the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale, Harvey is expected to deliver catastrophic damage and massive flooding.
CLOSURE AND SHELTER UPDATES
Texas Highway 361 shut down ferry operation in Port Aransas at 8 a.m., leaving the only route for evacuation via the same road in the other direction through Corpus Christi. Only 20 miles from the most likely landfall location, Port Aransas, along with Aransas Pass, Rockport and Portland, is under mandatory evacuation orders.
RTA buses in Corpus Christi resumed evacuation services at 8 a.m. today, taking riders to Cabaniss Field, where they will be registered and taken to shelters in San Antonio.
