Operations have officially begun at the South Texas Energy Products Systems Terminal in Corpus Christi. Owned by Rangeland Energy III LLC, the STEPS project transports diesel to sites across Mexico.
“Rangeland is looking forward to facilitating the transportation of diesel to destinations in Mexico for a major industry player,” said Rangeland President and CEO Christopher W. Keene in a statement. “This is the first customer to contract with us for services at the STEPS facility. As we continue to build out the STEPS project, we are working with other key marketers, refiners and producers to provide services into and out of STEPS.”
Keene did not name the customer.
As of June 4, STEPS began receiving, storing, and transporting refined products, liquified petroleum gas, and other hydrocarbons. It transports them to terminals primarily located in Mexico. Later, as additional infrastructures are phased in, marine facilities will be added in Corpus Christi and Mexico to accommodate crude oil, condensate, and fuel oil.
STEPS has easy access to the Valero, CITGO, and Flint Hills refineries, which are all within 5 miles. Currently, inbound products are delivered by truck and rail. Pipelines and barges are expected to be added later. For now, product also will move out of the STEPS Corpus Christi Terminal primarily by rail.
Rangeland Energy is headquartered in Sugar Land. It was formed in 2009 to develop, acquire, own, and operate midstream infrastructure for crude oil, natural gas, natural gas liquids, and other petroleum products.
