HOUSING AND JOB FAIR APRIL 3
Residents of Rockport-Fulton and employers in the area are invited to a free Housing and job Fair from 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 3 at the St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. The event, which is designed for homeowners, renters and job seekers, will offer information on housing resources, flood insurance, foreclosure prevention, housing counseling, loans, credit counseling, legal services, and crisis counseling. Job seekers will also be able to connect with local employers.
Participating agencies and providers include: HUD/FHA, FEMA, SBA, Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid, Sunrise Career Center – Veterans Career Advisor, Catholic Diocese, Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend, Texas Health and Human Services and more.
This is a great opportunity to share a good amount of information from all these agencies and employers in a “one – stop shopping,” stated Vicki Walker of the Aransas County Long Term Recovery Team.

HUMANA RELOCATES
Health and well-being company Humana held an open house recently to celebrate moving to its new neighborhood location at 4117 S. Staples Street, Ste. 260 in Corpus Christi. The location is in the Parkdale Plaza Shopping Center and will be open to the public Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Humana membership is not required for most activities which include fitness classes, cooking demonstrations, health and wellness seminars, social activities and more.
ARCHITECTS HIRED FOR DEL MAR SOUTH
A Southside Del Mar College campus got one step closer to reality recently when the board of regents selected Gensler and Turner Ramirez Architects as designers of its new campus. The $139 million campus will be built at the corner of Yorktown Boulevard and Rodd Field Road. Money for the project was approved by voters in a 2016 bond election.
Gensler already knows the project since it developed the master plan approved by the board last year. Turner Ramirez is a Corpus Christi based firm which designed Del Mar’s Workforce Development Center. The center is now under construction on the west campus.
First phase of construction, which is expected to cost about $93 million, will include the Main Building, STEM Building, and Culinary Institute with Community Meeting Room.
CITY MANAGER MAKES NEW APPOINTMENTS
Changes are being made at the Planning and Development Services Departments at City Hall. City Manager Margie C. Rose appointed Daniel McGinn as Planning Director. The new Development Services Director is Nina Nixon-Mendez.
McGinn has worked for the city since 2005, holding positions as city planner, project manager, land development manager, interim director of Development Services and assistant director of Planning and Environmental Strategic Initiatives. He helped establish the city’s newly created Planning Department.
Nixon-Mendez has 24 years experience in municipal development and planning. She has held multiple positions with the City of San Antonio, Castroville, Leon Valley and Laredo. She has won numerous awards and honors iin her development and planning work, including from the American Planning Association (both the Texas and national chapters), International City/County Management Association, Congress on New urbanism and the Texas Historical Commission, to mention a few.
CORPUS CHRISTI BANKER NAMED TO NATIONAL POSITION
After serving a year as chairman, R. Scott Heitkamp, president and CEO of ValueBank Texas in Corpus Christi, will continue to serve on the board of directors of the Independent Community Bankers of America. His 2018-2019 term began at the end of March at the conclusion of the ICBA Community Banking LIVE national convention, where he served as an at-large director and ICBA’s state delegate for Texas. He is a past chairman on the ICBPAC Committee and served on the Bank Services Committee.
“It’s an honor and a privilege to bring attention to the issues affecting Main Street, while providing policymakers with legislative and regulatory solutions that would yield meaningful and tangible results for the communities we serve,” Heitkamp said in a press release.
Heitkamp currently serves on the Executive Committee and the Federal Delegate Board and is chairman of the Nominating Committee. He is Executive Committee liaison to ICBA’s Safety and Soundness Committee and serves on the Policy Development Committee.
Locally, he has served as chairman of the Driscoll Hospital Development Foundation board of directors, is a current member of the board of directors of the Texas State Aquarium, is previous chairman of the San Patricio County Economic Development Corp., and is past president of the Aransas Pass Rotary Club.
Heitkamp is also past president the Independent Bankers Association of Texas Leadership Division and past advisory director of the Texas Tech University Banking School.
