Samuel Place Apartments on Carroll Lane in Corpus Christi will soon be demolished to make way for new affordable housing. The project is part of a partnership between TG 110 and Prospera Housing Community Services to rebuild outdated affordable housing. The development partnership received more than $1 million in state tax credits for the next 10 years to offset the cost of rebuilding.
Each building in the Samuel Place Apartments will be stripped of its studs. New construction will meet all building codes and provide modern amenities to the residents. Amenities include a remodeled community building with a computer center and services office as well as a playground. Interior upgrades include energy-efficient central HVAC, refrigerators with ice makers, dishwashers, garbage disposals, ceiling fans, exterior windows, and over-the-stove microwaves. A security fence will also be installed with vehicular- and pedestrian-controlled access gates.
A multifamily complex, Samuel Place has 60 apartment homes. Developers will spend more than $15 million on the project, following the same model as with Leopard Apartments, Lexington Manor Apartments, and the newly opened Glenoak Apartments.
“We are continuing to see improvements and growth in the city’s Central Corridor Revitalization area, and Samuel Place Apartments will add to those improvements,” said District 2 City Council member Ben Molina. “The reconstruction of these apartments is going to be much appreciated by the citizens in this area.”
