The biggest Goodwill Industries store in South Texas opened its doors to its first shoppers June 14 at 11330 Leopard St. in the Annaville area of Corpus Christi. The 16,000-square-foot facility offers 10,000 square feet of gently used donated clothing and household items for sale.
Shopping at a Goodwill store creates jobs, said John Owen, president and CEO of the nonprofit.
“The revenue generated from sales goes toward funding Goodwill’s mission services,” Owen said. “That includes job training and employment opportunities for people such as those with disabilities, veterans, or ex-offenders.”
The Veterans Band of Corpus Christi provided the pomp and ceremony Thursday morning as the Color Guard presented the flags. A long blue ribbon was cut to officially mark the opening of the store, after which store employees marched through the doors to begin ringing up sales in the city’s eighth Goodwill.
