Hurricane Alley Waterpark has reopened, but Waves Resort (formerly Schlitterbahn Corpus Christi) will stay closed until 2021. Waterparks and in-mall food courts were the latest facilities to be reopened by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in a May 26 announcement.
“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are incredibly sorry to say our doors will remain closed until Summer 2021,” reads a Waves Resort Facebook post. “We will be contacting everyone with a reservation and/or private event in these next few weeks to process a full refund for everything. We appreciate your patience during this time as we try to get a hold of everyone in a timely manner.”
Hurricane Alley reopened May 30, with the following restrictions:
- social distancing of 6 feet in lines entering the park or waiting for a ride or concessions
- picnic tables and lawn chairs must stay 6 feet apart
- face masks are provided for employees, but neither they nor guests are required to wear them
In addition, protective shields have been installed in guest contact areas and sanitation stations placed throughout the park.
The park is operating at 25 percent capacity for the time being. Tickets should be purchased online. One hundred daily spots have been reserved for season-pass holders, who can make a reservation by calling 361-883-9283. The park is open 11 a.m.-8 p.m. seven days a week. Waves Resort will use the year off to make improvements, a spokesperson said.
