Food Network’s “Supermarket Stakeout” features Port Aransas chef Gail Huesmann on its next episode, which airs at 9 p.m. Central on Tuesday, June 9. Huesmann, the executive chef at Black Marlin Bar and Grill, goes up against three other top chefs in a pop-up kitchen cook-off for the 13th episode in the show’s second season.
Huesmann has been listed as a Top Ten Chef at the World Food Championships. She placed second in last year’s competition. She is a former chef instructor at Le Cordon Blue College of Culinary Arts in Chicago and has been featured on the network’s “Cutthroat Kitchen.”
The show challenges chefs to bid for shoppers’ grocery purchases as they exit that week’s chosen store. For this episode, Huesmann and her competitors were tasked with cooking a weekend brunch from whatever was in the bags from Bristol Farms Supermarket in Calabasas, California. Preparation was done in tents in the Bristol Farms parking lot.
Joining in the competition is Huesmann’s business/life partner Vita Jarrin, co-owner of A la Mode Gelateria  and Snack Bar on Padre Island. Jarrin is also pastry chef for the Black Marlin and was the runnerup in the “Lay’er On Me” episode of “Supermarket Stakeout” in April. Also a competitor on Food Network’s “Cooks vs. Cons” show, Jarrin won $10,000.
Who moves on to the next competition in “Supermarket Stakeout” won’t be revealed until the show airs. The show is hosted by Iron Chef Alex Guaranschelli.
