The latest new attraction at SeaWorld San Antonio comes straight out of Port Aransas in the Coastal Bend. Turtle Reef, which is expected to open in the Spring of 2019, came about through a partnership between SeaWorld, Amos Rehabilitation Keep and the University of Texas Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas.
The exhibit features a 126,000 gallon coral reef-themed exhibit featuring turtles that ARK has saved, but cannot return to the wild.
As part of the partnership, ARK will receive 5 percent of the profits from any turtle-themed merchandise in SeaWorld gift shops.
The interactive exhibit features an underwater viewing area where visitors can see the turtles up close and learn about their lives and rescues. Guests will be only inches away from rescued sea turtles and hundreds of Caribbean fish.
The park is adding three new rides at the same time, two of which are adjacent to Turtle Reef. The new rides are: Riptide Rescue, a three-armed spinning rider; Sea Swinger, a pendulum ride; and Ihu’s Breakaway Falls, a multidrop tower slide. Breakaway Falls will be located in the water park portion of SeaWorld, Aquatica San Antonio.
