Painting a car is so last century. At Premier Wraps & Signs in Corpus Christi, you can change more than the color of your car — or truck — with a wrap using artistic designs, logos and pearl or satin finishes to create your very own dream machine or business billboard on wheels.
“A wrap is basically a large decal with a sticky backing,” said John Frost, general manager at Premier Wraps & Signs. “It’s not permanent, so you can pull off the wrap if you want to change the design or even restore your car to its original paint without messing with the resale value.”
It takes a special skill to correctly apply wraps, something Frost has developed during his years in the business. Since he was 16 years old, he has fostered a passion for customizing vehicles.
“I would buy cars and ‘play’ with them, until I actually ended up working for a company that did custom work on vehicles and learned as much as I could,” he said. “Later, I decided I wanted to work for myself and have a business to call my own.”
In 2011, Premier Wraps & Signs opened its doors in Corpus Christi. Frost was surprised at how quickly things took off. His first year, he was just one person, doing one wrap a month and working out of a 1,000-square-foot building.
“Six years later, we now have a team of six talented professionals, and we do 20 wraps a month in our 10,000-square-foot building,” Frost told Corpus Christi Business News. “Once people see the quality of your work and you develop a good reputation, it’s not hard for a business to succeed.”
The company does more than vehicle wraps; it also specializes in graphic design, signs, banners, logos, fleet vehicles, real estate, political signs and more.
“In a way, we have two sides to the business,” he explained. “We have clients who want to customize and change the color and style of their ‘toys’ like classic cars, boats, etcetera, and then we have corporations like Auto Nation, Pepsi, oil field companies and local businesses needing company cars or fleet vehicles to be their ‘mobile signs.’”
A gallery of designs and finished custom work can be seen on the company’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
For Frost, the best part of his job is not just getting to do the work he loved as a child but also helping others realize their own dreams.
“My favorite part is taking somebody’s idea and making it a reality for them,” Frost said.
