Hurricane Grace misses Coastal Bend but increases risks on beaches
The City of Corpus Christi issued a warning on Thursday, Aug. 19 to use caution while at Gulf Coast beaches through the weekend. Hurricane Grace is expected to make landfall on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico as a Category 1 storm around 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, causing life-threatening conditions to the Texas Gulf Coast.
These threats include a high risk for rip currents, rough surf, and minor coastal flooding. The public can expect to see 5-7 foot waves on Friday and Saturday.
In response to adverse weather conditions, the City has placed message boards at beach access roads advising the public of dangerous water conditions. In addition, lifeguard presence will be increased.
City leaders urge beach patrons to stay informed of the Beach Flag Warning System. Red flag conditions will remain present through the weekend.
Additional information regarding the Beach Flag Warning System can be found on the “Corpus Christi Beaches” Facebook page. The public is asked to take precautions and follow local advisories for any updates.
